C. Frank Igwe is founder and President of Moravia Health, a full service Medicare & Medicaid Home Health Agency, licensed by the State of Pennsylvania. Founded in 2012, it serves over 200 patients in the Philadelphia area. He believes that healthcare is a basic human right, and lives by the words “do well by doing good”. Frank is committed to serving “the least of these”, by providing the highest quality of care possible to the elderly and/or disabled, who wish to maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life, by remaining in their homes.
Prior to founding Moravia Health, Frank was the founder and Executive Director of the non-profit organization, City ACES (Athletes Changing Expectations). City ACES utilizes professional athletes in the NBA/NFL/MLB/NCAA to motivate and inspire Middle-School aged youth residing in underperforming school districts, and distressed communities (across the United States), towards academic achievement. Frank Igwe and City ACES have been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, USA Today, Black Entertainment Television (BET), The Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Times, NPR, Yahoo, Foxsports, The Grio, Christian Science Monitor, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and ESPN, among others.
Frank is also a 2008 Fellow of the Kennedy School of Government, at Harvard University, and his research focused on how, and why, historically underserved groups appropriate information and communication technologies (ICT). More specifically, his research examined how African Americans are socially shaping technology to create virtual “third place” communities as a means to create new social support systems for discussing, preventing, and coping with health crises, such as HIV/AIDS. Included in this is the examination of the performance of racial and ethnic identities in virtual communities, ICT education and workforce participation in the African Diaspora, and the influence of racial, class and gender identities on health information seeking and content creation.
His work regarding health and information technology has been funded in part by the National Science Foundation, and has garnered him national attention, with Op-Ed’s in “The Christian Science Monitor”, “Yahoo! News”, and a piece in the prestigious “Chronicle of Higher Education”. Other publications, regarding health and IT, have been featured in the “Journal of Computer Mediated Communication”, and “Encyclopedia of Information Science and Technology”, among others. Frank also has several conference presentations, including the “Black Policy Conference” at Harvard University, the “i-Conference” at UCLA, and the “Future Forum”, at Penn State University.
C. Frank Igwe is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, a business honor society, and holds a BS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Oklahoma, an MBA/MS in Supply Chain Management from Penn State University, and a Ph.D. in Information Sciences & Technology from Penn State University. He also has an MGA from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a 2008 Fellow of Harvard University. In addition to managing his company, he teaches “Media Relations and Messaging in a New Media World” at the University of Pennsylvania.
